An NCS will typically work night shifts or 24/7 shifts for 6 weeks to 6 months to help you and your newborn create a routine as you settle in at home. (Learn more about how a Postpartum Doula differs below!).

Let’s talk a little about…

How Postpartum Doulas are Different from Newborn Care Specialists.

We know this can be confusing!

POSTPARTUM DOULAS FOCUS ON FAMILY.
A Postpartum Doula provides holistic support to the whole family in the first few months following birth, through education, basic baby care, mother care and household assistance. The focus is on the entire family versus primarily the newborn. They may assist with laundry, meal preparation, and additional needs of the family while also caring for the newborn.

NEWBORN CARE SPECIALISTS FOCUS ON NEWBORNS.
A Newborn Care Specialist provides unique expertise in all aspects of newborn care, parental education and support. An NCS’s job is to help nurture and care for newborns while providing guidance and education for the parents. They are generally not responsible for household duties unrelated to the new baby or for the care of other children in the household.

How this Works: Our 5-Step Process

Educated Newborn Care Specialists does the homework for you!

Our selectively recruited Educated NCS’s care for you and your infant, empowering you with the knowledge and support to be fully engaged with your baby. We apply a personalized screening process to match the perfect caregiver with your family.

A new mother sits with her infant on her lap as she feeds him. A female lactation consultant is overseeing the feeding to ensure proper posture for the mother and latch of the baby.

STEP ONE.

We’ll start by getting to know all about you.

Before the baby arrives, and after you’ve signed on with us, our placement team will “visit” your home via a Zoom consultation. This is an opportunity for us to meet your family and learn about your unique infant care needs, wishlist, goals and philosophies. While all of our Educated NCS’s are infant care experts, a personal touch is our promise — it’s our mission (and joy!) to find the respectful and intelligent specialist you’ll be able to align with and trust.

STEP TWO.

Our team will screen candidates.

From our own network and beyond, we seek out educated, nurturing newborn and infant care specialists and Doulas with years of experience, skills, and the utmost integrity. Candidates must share the values of Educated Newborn Care Specialists. We interview each candidate and call references before you meet with them. We conduct thorough background screenings upon hire and verify that all of our candidates are CPR/first aid certified. Plus, all of our hires in California are TrustLine registered. The safety of your newborn baby matters most to us!

STEP THREE.

We’ll set up your interview.

This is where things get really exciting! After we have done our research, we send you the resumes and letters of recommendation for our top candidates. These are the Newborn Care Specialists who match your skill requirements and schedule, and who we believe will complement your family’s personality and lifestyle! We help you set up interviews and you meet our team of trusted experts.

STEP FOUR.

Oh, baby! Let’s make a hire!

Once you’ve selected your Educated Newborn Care Specialist or Postpartum Doula, you will create and sign contracts. Next, you will pay the caregiver their retainer. Newborn Care Specialists and Postpartum Doulas can be paid as a W2 household employee or as an independent contractor through their LLC.

STEP FIVE.

Happy Birthday to your baby and hello to your Educated Newborn Care Specialist!

Congrats on your new arrival! Your Newborn Care Specialist or Postpartum Doula is available for you starting on Day 1 (and of course, Night 1!) or whenever you need care to begin. Our team will be there for ongoing support if you have any feedback or happy shares.

Words of Trust

Donna

“Ryan Jordan was so gracious to find the most amazing family for me to support. They have become extended family to me and I am forever thankful. She really knows her clients and their intricate needs, and has so deservingly earned an incredible reputation in the industry. I value her as a colleague, friend, and trusted advisor. I have referred many of my Newborn Care clients to her for nanny support through Educated Nannies and all have been so happy.”

Julie & Bryan

“As first-time parents, we had a lot of questions, and Ryan was invaluable in providing insight that helped us better articulate the type of support we needed. She was incredibly thoughtful in only sharing NCS candidates with us who would be a good fit for our family. We love our NCS - she has helped make our transition to parenthood as smooth as possible and enabled us to have true quality time to bond with our son in his first months. And we value that Ryan has provided ongoing guidance long after our hiring decision. We highly recommend  Educated Newborn Care Specialists.”

— Julie & Bryan, Parents

Lori

“Ryan personally handled everything — getting my resume and contract to the client, assuring that I arrived safely, and that I had everything I needed to start this new position. She was in constant contact so if there were any issues or if anything needed clarification, Ryan was on it immediately. It is obvious that she has a passion for what she does. She seems to truly care about her clients and the NCS's she places. She helped me professionally, and also understood the challenges of being away from family.  Anyone with the opportunity to work with her should jump on it. ”

— Lori Wade, Master NCS

Rebecca

Educated Newborn Care Specialists is by far the best agency I have found in thirty years and my favorite agency to work with! As an NCS, it’s so nice to work with an agency that cares about making sure they really know me and what I offer. My placements have felt tailor-made for me!

What makes ENCS different is the constant personal communication, the unparalleled integrity with which they run the company, and the security in knowing that the clients are taken care of like family. Ryan truly cares about helping families... it's not about the money! It is so important to her that it's a great fit. She runs her company with love.”

— Rebecca Isner, Newborn Care Specialist & Lactation Counselor
